The proposed solution is an optical tracking system focused on amateur tennis that takes as input the video signal obtained from mobile phones.

In professional tennis, the use of computer vision systems for data extraction is a less challenging task due to the characteristics of the videos. The ATP circuit uses high-resolution professional cameras placed in a fixed elevated position at the back of the court. These videos capture full-court views, and the court lines, ball, and players are distinctly visible. However, tennis and padel courts outside the professional circuit typically do not integrate video cameras.

The project’s goal is to leverage the high availability of smartphones among the population to democratize the ability for any player with a mobile phone stand to obtain general statistics about their game during the match.
